Jump on the Texas band wagon! Next stop…Oklahoma State!
October 19, 2008 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
I dont think anyone was expecting the pounding that Missouri took today. I ordered pizza at 7-0 and by the time it got there (30 min later) it was already 35-0 Texas. College football fans are leaving their teams all across America to join the Texas Bandwagon group. I would like you to know that they are not currently accepting BYU fans, it just wouldnt be right. Colt Mccoy went 29-32 (better than 90%) passing. For all of you who said their defense was overrated, I hope you were watching the game, because they only allowed 3 points in the first half against a team who is always scoring. The game tonight never materialized with Mccoy at the reigns. He just took over the first half and by halftime we were wondering if they were going to invent some mercy rule. They really should after seeing some of the games this weekend. Tulsa put up 77 tonight against UTEP which is 25 more than Texas was able to score. They also put more up than Texas against Rice putting 63 points on them. The only question I see with Tulsa is their schedule strength. They could run the table which would be very interesting to see how far they make it up the poll. So far they havent even reached Top 25 status although I am pretty sure that all changes this week. How do you argue with stats like these:
Completions: 29
Attempts: 32
Yards: 337
Completion Percentage: 90.6 %
Longest: 38
Touchdowns: 2
Interceptions: 0
Passer Rating: 199.71
Rushing Attempts: 11
Rushing Yards: 23
Average: 2.1
Longest: 9
Touchdowns: 2
All of this against the #11 team in the nation who was, until last week, considered to be the best of the Big 12 and the country. I can only imagine what it would have been like if Missouri had won last week. I am however, glad that they were able to get two solid wins against two major teams in a row. I am interested in seeing what the injuries are after this game, because I kept noticing Longhorn players heading over to the sideline. I hope to see you next week when the Longhorns take on the #8 team in the nation in Oklahoma State (the team that took out Missouri last week).
NFL Picks Week 7

Wow, so a horrible weekend for me again last week. I went 3-3 last week which was stupid. I mean there were some really rediculous games last weekend. I am so glad that I have started over fresh this week and I think I can pick some good ones.

NBA Preseason Scores October 17th, 2008
October 18, 2008 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
I thought I would start adding NBA scores to the site even though they are just in Preseason. You have to understand that this is not necessarily how they are going to play during the regular season. Since it is the Preseason, the stars of each team are not going to be playing full games.
New Orleans (5-0) 102
Washington (1-4) 80
Memphis (2-4) 86
Indiana (3-2) 112
New York (2-2) 104
Boston (4-2) 97
Phoenix (2-3) 91
Denver (4-0) 94
Utah (2-3) 105
Chicago (1-3) 108
Sacramento (1-4) 90
Houston (4-2) 95
Golden State (3-2) 109
Milwaukee (1-5) 108
Thank You TCU, May I Have Another?
October 17, 2008 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment

For BYU to be ranked even close to #9 has pissed me off to no end for the past couple of weeks. I am tired of Mountain West teams getting the benefit of the doubt. I feel bad because I feel as if I am talking about TCU also since they are in the Mountain West also but I have all the respect in the world for them. Yes, TCU plays #2 Oklahoma, #9 BYU, and so far #14 Utah but I actually imagine Utah moving into the top 10 by the time they get to TCU. I am very excited to see that game, and hope that it could move TCU into position for a possible BCS game. I would be alright with that, or at least a good bowl game that makes them money (god knows they need it after their tuition…NOT!). Anyways, they only allowed 35 from Oklahoma and that was their worse game (which by the way is how much Texas allowed from Oklahoma). Again, thank you TCU for proving the point I have been trying to make this entire season which is that BYU is overrated, maybe even more overrated thank Kansas at this point. You have no BCS hopes anymore BYU, its possible that TCU might at this point. I think they might have actually lost early enough to at least be considered. The problem is that if TCU wins out and runs the table, their two key wins will come from Non-BCS teams being from a Non-BCS conference. It will be interesting to see how all of this pans out and you can be sure that I will be pushing hardcore for TCU in the coming weeks. What makes me mad is BYU is able to jack up every one of their players stats by not playing anyone. Max Hall has already thrown for more yards than Colt Mccoy, Chase Daniel, Sam Bradford, and even Graham Harrell. His QB rating is not half bad either. Don’t get me wrong, I think he has a great chance to play in the NFL. The dude is 6-1, 200lbs which is great, but I just dont want him getting drafted ahead of other Quarterbacks who deserve a chance. What is funny about this entire thing is this was BYU’s toughest opponent of the year so far and Max couldnt even muster up a passing touchdown.
College Football – Week 8 – Games to watch
October 17, 2008 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
Thursday, October 16th
6:30PM Central on ESPN [HD]
Florida State at North Carolina State (W) Florida State
Look for Florida State to come out with a stronger offense than they have had in the past. I would watch out for their quarterback Christian Ponder as he has proved that he can run the ball in a scramble averaging 6.7 yards on the ground. Another low scoring SEC team.
Friday, October 17th
7:00PM CST on ESPN [HD]
Hawaii at #15 Boise State (W) Boise State
After starting the season 1-3, the Warriors of Hawaii have gotten back to .500 running through Fresno State and Louisiana Tech. I dont think they have enough on defense for Kellen Moore and his 1300+ yards of passing this season.
Saturday, October 18th
Saturday brings us a whole score full of games to watch. I am quite excited about this weekend to be honest with you.
11:00AM CST on FSN [HD]
#7 Texas Tech at Texas A&M (W) Texas Tech
In the Big 12 anything is possible, and if anything it should be a decent game, but look for Graham Harrell to try to let his throwing do the talking for him as he tries to get back into the running for the Heisman.
11:30AM CST on Raycom [HD]
#22 Vanderbilt at #10 Georgia (W) Georgia
Although Georgia is coming off of a loss to Alabama at home and a poor showing at home last week with Tennessee, I cannot put my trust in a quarterback who has actually run further than he has thrown. I have heard rumors of Mackenzi Adams taking over but wont believe it till I see it. With Adams at the reigns, this team becomes a little more dangerous in the passing game.
2:30PM CST on ABC [HD]
#16 Kansas at #4 Oklahoma (W) Oklahoma
With Kansas having a loss against the best team they have played, I have yet to see Tood Reesing’s full potential and I have to assume that Oklahoma is going to roll over them. Kansas is by far considered the most overrated team this season. Reesing and Sam Bradford of Oklahoma have similar stats so it should be interesting to see if the Sooner’s defense can stand up to Reesing because I know he is a stud.
2:30PM CST on ABC [HD]
#12 Ohio State at #20 Michigan State (W) Michigan State
Michigan State has been throwing up stats that are just rediculous. They also have not really played anyone either. Their only loss has come to a great Cal team. Look for Chris Wells to play hard and fast in this one.
3:30PM CST on ESPN [HD]
Michigan at #3 Penn State (W) Penn State
In order to make a bowl game this season, Michigan needs to step it up hardcore if they want any chance at the second half of their hard schedule. I want to put some trust in Threet, but after losing to Toledo, I just cant seem to muster any. Plus, Penn State just put up 48 on Wisconsin (ouch).
7:00PM CST on ABC [HD]
#11 Missouri at #1 Texas (W) Texas
What can I say? Hook em’
7:00PM CST on ESPN [HD]
#13 LSU at South Carolina (W) South Carolina
I am sorry, but to me, South Carolina has been producing far more offensively than LSU. I really don’t think South Carolina is going to have a problem with the running game of LSU. Call me crazy but I am feeling bold tonight.
Tampa Bay leads series 2-1
October 14, 2008 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
Tied for the 3rd largest deficit for the Boston Red Sox at home in the post season, Tampa Bay dealt the Red Sox with a horrible hand crushing them 9-1. Joe Maddon replies with, “We won tonight, Ive talked about it a lot, its one day at a time, one game at a time. We happened to win tonight. We gotta come out ready for bear tomorrow.” Happened to win? You guys obliterated the Red Sox last night and I had no doubt the entire game that you guys would be the first ones to strike gold. Red Sox coaches and players were talking about how it was a pretty good game except for 1 inning…psh, you guys anihilated them hardcore. Congrats to you guys because I know your home fans arent appreciating you guys enough. I think its high time you guys come to Austin because we respect our minor leaguers, I think you guys would be golden here. I can promise you that I am going to be watching the game tonight, and I am sure that half the country will too. You guys are amazing, I am excited for you, and just ROLL RAYS ROLL!@!@
As for you Red Sox fans, I hope you guys are comfortable with where your boys are at right now because it doesnt get any easier tonight…I hope that you guys can make this a series, because I have been watching pretty closely. Hey, look at it this way, if Utah can get a vote for 1rst place on the Harris Poll then you guys shouldnt have a problem winning at home. Dont let the Rays treat you like that…You should try to make this a series, maybe a comeback or something. That doesn’t happen that often. If a kid at Mesa State can cut off his pinky finger to keep playing on the team, then you guys can do something to figure this series out. I am begging you to make this sport interesting. Because a Phillies vs. Rays series makes me want to yawn, puke, and soil myself at the same time. I am tired of fans not showing up in Tampa Bay so I am sure they will be alright when they actually do…its not looking too good for the Rays…

A huge shake up in the polls today. Just one week before the BCS polls come out, the AP poll is going nuts. I couldnt believe the way it ended up with Texas being number 1 in the end. I couldnt believe they leapfrogged Alabama like that, but I guess it makes sense. Texas did just beat the Number 1 team, while Alabama didnt play anyone. If the Alabama fans have anything to look at, its that they dont have the schedule Texas does in the future, and hey, Alabama and Texas both became Bowl eligible this past weekend.
1. Texas (39) 6-0 1,599
2. Alabama (26) 6-0 1,582
3. Penn State 7-0 1,492
4. Oklahoma 5-1 1,306
5. Florida 5-1 1,284
6. USC 4-1 1,247
7. Texas Tech 6-0 1,210
8. Oklahoma State 6-0 1,184
9. Brigham Young 6-0 1,131
10. Georgia 5-1 1,081
11. Missouri 5-1 984
12. Ohio State 6-1 908
13. LSU 4-1 893
14. Utah 7-0 834
15. Boise State 5-0 714
16. Kansas 5-1 620
17. Virginia Tech 5-1 540
18. North Carolina 5-1 416
19. South Florida 5-1 397
20. Michigan State 6-1 371
21. Wake Forest 4-1 330
22. Vanderbilt 5-1 258
23. Pittsburgh 4-1 182
24. Ball State 7-0 166
25. California 4-1 115
All I have to say is…Watch out for Penn State.
D-2 Shake-Up

I had a couple of requests via phone and email from the readers and I have decided that I am going to start bringing you scores from the Division-2 football games:
(1) Grand Valley 41
Hillsdale 10
(2) North Alabama 52
North Greenville 10
(3) Abilene Christian 51
Angelo State 7
(4) West Texas A&M 51
Eastern New Mexico 27
(5) Northwest Missouri 20
(20) Central Missouri 13
(6) Central Washington 50
Western Washington
(7) Bloomsburg 42
East Stroudsburg 23
(8) Valdosta State 27
Henderson State 23
(9) Minnesota-Duluth 55
Northern State 7
(10) Delta State 21
West Alabama 14
(11) Tuskegee 41
Morehouse 21
(12) California 56
Lock Haven 3
(13) Chadron State 43
Western New Mexico 17
(14) Pittsburg 45
Truman 28
(15) IUP 17
(18) Edinboro 24
(16) Carson-Newman 21
Catawba 14
(17) Wingate 35
Lenoir-Rhyne 17
(19) West Virginia State 28
(23) Seton Hill 35
(21) Tarleton State 37
(24) Midwestern State 16
(25) Nebraska- Omaha 42
Missouri Western 14
I just dont see how you can argue some of those teams should not be up in the top 5. I feel bad for Central Missouri and Midwestern State schools, as they have probably both left the Top 25 but that also opens up a couple of spots for some of the other D-2 schools to step it up…
Too soon to call Rays down 2-0?
October 12, 2008 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
After the first inning, I would have to tell you that the Rays are already out of this game. Boston struck first with 2 runs in the first inning. When Tampa got up to the plate, their first two went down Carlos Pena doubled into far left center. With Pena on 2nd base, Evan Longoria (my pick for AL rookie of the year) homered into left and was able to tie the game up at the end of the first inning. I give the Rays a good chance of tying the series up tonight as I have this feeling in my stomach that they are going to be alright. I personally feel as if they have been looked upon as a nothing team all season. I really do hope that they can pull this off and go to a World Series…Hell, you can have your home games at the Astrodome if you would like? I would give anything to be able to see the Tampa Bay Rays on a regular basis. You old retired folks dont know what you are missing out on and what you guys have.
