Will Muschamp to Tennessee??? God I hope not.
January 13, 2010
With Lane Kiffin leaving the University of Tennessee just a little over a year after getting there, Tennessee is going to be looking for a non-controversial coach who can just step in and take over where Lane Kiffin left the program. The Tennessee program really isnt that bad but they were embarrassed by Virginia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Bowl 37-14. The main reason they lost this game was a lack of production from the offense. While the defense was quite lame towards the end, they played a good game most of the first half. I mean, who wouldn’t do well with Monte Kiffin coaching your defense, but with his son Lame Kiffin going to USC, part of the package included Monte also. This does wonders for USC but this cripples Tennessee. So with all of this, you can only wonder why they want Will Muschamp. Here are the candidates that SidelineBlog has found to be in the front of the pack that Tennessee has written down as who they would love to have:
Will Muschamp (Defensive Coordinator and Coach in Waiting for the Texas Longhorns) – Will Muschamp would undoubtedly look good in that Tennessee Orange managing the defense while using Mack Brown and Greg Davis’ expertise (which he has been around for a few years now) to command the offense. While this would be great for Tennessee, I dont think its the best spot for Muschamp. He is set to take over a Longhorn program that brings in over $80,000,000 dollars per season. Thats a lot of zero’s. But you know never, in his heart of hearts…he is still just a boy from Georgia.
Jon Gruden – He has had his issues with Monte Kiffin in the past, and from what I can tell, he was supposed to get the job at Tennessee until Lane Kiffin strolled into town. What a sweet deal it would be to take over the program the Kiffin’s tore apart and win a BCS championship. Lets just say that Tennessee fans would love to see Lane Kiffin face down in the dirt. I doubt it will happen in the end because Gruden is saying he loves being an announcer. Mike Hamilton (Tennessee Athletic Director) has already spoken with Gruden and it sounds like he is turning it down. But then again, from what I hear, Hamilton wont be there much longer.
David Cutcliffe (Head Coach of Duke University) – Has had ties to Tennessee in the past (1982 – Part Time, 1983-1993 – Tight Ends Coach, 1990-1993 – Quarterbacks Coach, 1993-1998 – Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach, 2006-2007 – Offensive Coordinator) and when he wasnt with the Volunteers, he was coaching around the SEC. To me this is the smartest choice because of the large rift that is Tennessee right now. He spent two tours underneath long time Head Coach Philip Fulmer which is interesting considering all the rumors that Fulmer could be the next Athletic Director.
Other coaching possibilities at this point include:
- Randy Edsell
- Houston Nutt
- Troy Calhoun
- Derek Dooley
Is the Big 12 overrated this season?
October 19, 2009
With Texas being the only team that is undefeated left in the Big 12, people are starting to talk about how the Big 12 is overrated this season. Oklahoma has dropped out of the Top 25 for the first time since 2005. They barely stayed in the AP poll only because they only lost my three points to Texas this past weekend. The real question here is whether or not the Big 12 is overrated. I say its not for a lot of reasons. First reason is that Oklahoma has three losses. If you disect those losses Bradford got hurt in the BYU game, did not play at all in the Miami game, and got hurt 8 plays into the Texas game. So you tell me that Oklahoma is horrible having shut out two other teams without Bradford. They might not be able to step up against the likes of Miami and Texas, but they are still no pushover, they will be in a highly anticipated bowl game (more than likely either the Cotton Bowl, Alamo Bowl or Holiday Bowl). Yes sir, when it comes down to it, I dont think I would like to face any of the top 6 teams in the Big 12. I don’t think any team could call it an automatic win.
Secondly, even though the Big 12 only has 3 teams in the top 25, they have three teams just outside the top 25 and next week, if all those teams win, they will more than likely be right back up in the top 25. There are two teams with one loss and 3 teams with two losses. In fact, there is only one team in the Big 12 that has a losing record at this point and thats Colorado. They are coming off a huge win against a top 25 opponent and long time rival Kansas handing them their first loss. My point is that even Texas A&M (which in the past few years has kind of been a joke in the Big 12) is putting up huge numbers against teams. They started out great with three huge wins against some decent teams, but has hit a rough patch going 0-3 in the past three games and being outscored 145-64 in those games. Thats a crazy stat considering they outscored their opponents 135-54 for the first three games of the season. Wake up boys, thats all I have to say. You need to step it up and make the Big 12 proud. I look forward to the Texas-Texas A&M game at the end o the season because both teams have the potential to put up some crazy numbers. All in all I would have to say that the SEC wont look as pretty as they do at the end of the season either because they are all going to have to beat up on each other. We might have lost one of our giants in Oklahoma, but to be honest with you, I am pretty sure most of the Big 12 teams could hold their own against SEC opponents. I look forward to the Cotton Bowl this season as I plan to attend and watch the Big 12 battle the SEC in a high profile bowl game. The Big 12 is not going away people. They are here to stay.
Week 1 College Football Rankings Top 50
September 9, 2009
So the first week of college football has already seen its plethora of upsets. I am so excited for this college football season because Sam Bradford is already out of the Heisman watch and it looks like after Week 1 we already have it down to two candidates. Tim Tebow and Colt Mccoy are both front runners for the Heisman Trophy this year with Tim Tebow leading slightly. Jahvid Best is a somewhat close 3rd with Max Hall of BYU getting a huge boost after dismantling the Oklahoma Sooner defense. Dez Bryant made the cover of the next Sports Illustrated but has not see much boost in the Heisman Watch. Oklahoma State put a beat down on Georgia this past weekend which was personally my favorite game even though Oklahoma did lose to BYU. With week 2 having some more important games I am excited to see what the rankings will be after this weekend.

2009-2010 Big 12 North and South Predictions
September 4, 2009
I will start out by reviewing what is in my opinion to be the roughest toughest part of any conference in the NCAA. The 2nd place Longhorns look to take it all this season, but with the intensity of their schedule at this point could lead a sleeping giant in Oklahoma State. I know that you boomer sooner fans out there are not going to like what I have to say, but I just dont think its your year boys. I am hoping not at least. WE (My fellow Longhorn fans) crushed you once and will do it again. Some key games to look at this season are the following (all times are Central Standard Time):
- September 5th
- (9) Oklahoma State vs. (13) Georgia ABC at 2:30PM
- September 12th
- (22) Iowa at Iowa State 11:05AM

Here are my quick predictions in case you were wondering.

Preseason College Football Rankings
August 10, 2009

Thank you god! College Football season is just around the corner now. I was seriously going crazy having to watch Baseball 24/7 in order to fill my sports time in my life. I am pretty much through with baseball because of all the steroids issues. I feel like the time I found out that wrestling wasnt real. Thank you oh football gods for making this time go faster than I thought though, because I am so ready for this season to start. There are so many awesome teams out there to choose from. Personally I am hoping for a Longhorn national championship again (but I am not holding my breathe). The only thing I truly care about is that they do not hype the SEC up more than they are worth this season. The Big 12 is where its at and the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and PAC-10 are pretty weak this season. I will also be interested in finding out where Utah, Boise State, and TCU will be ending up as well as how June Jones does at SMU. Anyways, I know what you guys are looking for so here it is. This past week USA Today did their annual preseason rankings for this next season.
- Florida
- Texas
- Oklahoma
- USC
- Alabama
- Ohio State
- Virginia Tech
- Penn State
- LSU
- Mississippi
- Oklahoma State
- California

- Houston
I personally cannot believe how Notre Dame was ranked so high. The Big 12 has 8 teams ranked in the top 60 which theorectically means that the Big 12 could have 8 + teams in college bowl games by the end of the season. I can only hope that they take care of business before the conference games start. Anyways, this is exciting for me because I just watched an NFL game on TV for the first time this season. The Hall of Fame Game was on and it has made my life a lot better and hope it will yours too!
Top Reasons Bowl Games Suck
January 4, 2009
So I have pretty much watched every single bowl game so far. In fact I even took the effort to go to the Alamo Bowl which will probably go down as one of the best bowl games of this season. The problem I have is the number of bowl games is rediculous. More than half the teams in Division 1 make a bowl game. As of this season, there are only 119 schools that are in the Division 1 FBS league. There are 34 bowl games with 68 schools participating. This does not make sense to me only because I thought bowl games we supposed to mean something. If you make it to a bowl game these days, it just meant that you had above a .500 record. I mean seriously? Is that what this world has come to? Do we really have to deal with this? I want to know how many of these bowl games were sold out because the Alamo Bowl (which is supposed to be a second tier bowl to the actual BCS games) was most definately sold out and I paid 19 dollars for a ticket 34 rows up…not a bad deal eh?
Too bad I was wearing a yellow shirt in a sea of purple. I was given pretty dirty looks the whole time. I just couldnt believe the game was not sold out. Especially since it went into overtime (even though people couldnt possibly know that) it was probably the best game so far in the Bowl series. I thought Utah and Alabama would be a better game but Utah took care of that. The problem I have is now they are asking the question whether or not Utah deserves a share of the national championship. Thats not the worst part though. The worst part is that 65 percent of the United States belives that they should. Come on people, they dont play near the schedule any other team does. Yes, they went undefeated and I congradulate them on that great accomplishment, and maybe they deserve to be in the top 5, but they most certainly do not deserve the number 1 spot. To even be considered is rediculous. The sad part is that the AP poll will more than likely give them a share if Florida loses to Oklahoma. The point is that the Texas Longhorns got screwed out of a national championship. Oklahoma has a chance to redeem that for the Big 12. The problem is that I doubt Oklahoma is going to be able to play with Florida and if they can, then great I am excited for them, but if they cant…the Big 12 loses all respect because Texas Tech just lost to Ole Miss. Good luck to all those still in this thing.
Texas Tech Red Raiders offically suck!
January 3, 2009
I am tired of watching the Big 12 lose. I am tired of watching the SEC win. Ole Miss is a great team, they have a great quarterback in Jevan Snead (last years Texas Longhorn backup) but I still do not think they compare to half the Big 12 teams. What I watched today was so pathetic I stopped enjoying football for about 3 hours today. I feel like its 3 hours of my life that I will never get back. Graham Harrell played like complete dog doodoo. I cannot believe I seriously went 0-3 today for bowl games. Today was a low day for me. Alabama is going to lose to Utah 31-17 ??? What is this world coming to? I dont know whether to stop watching college football all together or start pushing for a playoff. Obviously Texas Tech is not effective enough to even participate in the Cotton Bowl. I have stood up to the SEC A-holes long enough and listened to them whine about how the BIg 12 is so overrated and they have no defense.
On top of everything else that has happened today, now I have to ask the question, “Is Utah the best team in the nation?” Why am I asking this question? Because Utah not only beat Alabama tonight, they walloped them. Which just goes to show you that the SEC is not as strong as one would have you believe. OOOO, low blow right? Well the Big 12 isnt looking so hot either. To be honest with you I think that Texas Tech and Alabama were both heavily disappointed in where they ended up. I think that the total lack of preperation proves that point. Neither team won and Alabama started the game down 21-3. Texas Tech went up 14-0 and still lost. Graham Harrell was most definately to blame for most of the Texas Tech woes today with 2 interceptions. He had just thrown 7 all season coming into the game. The moral of this story is don’t put all your trust into a team soley based on a passing offense.
Sam Bradford looks hungover in ESPN Interview
December 15, 2008
This looks great for the Big 12 as far as National Champions go. Sam Bradford, coming off his big Heisman Trophy win, goes into ESPN First Take for an interview where he has obviously not gone to sleep yet, looks like he has been hammering beers and shots all night, and it looks like at any moment he could hurl all over the camera dude and the note cards. Colt would probably just have had some strippers over or something, I dont think he is a big drinker. Anyways, I hope that everything works out in the end, but I have a feeling that Florida is going to make Oklahoma look stupid. Sam Bradford could pretty much make the Big 12 look worthless if Florida is able to go out and slaughter them. He seriously looks like I look when I get up in the morning after a long night of partying. Its how I feel right before I walk into my bathroom and hurl into the toilet.
Gene Chizik named Auburn Head Coach
December 14, 2008
Is the Auburn job really that bad? When Gene Chizik was defensive coordinator there, they were undefeated, but came up short in the national championship. After starting the season 2-0 his Iowa State Cyclones went 0-10 to finish the season 2-10 this past 2008 season. One would wonder why he is being given the chance to coach a powerhouse SEC school, especially in these times where minority coaches are not being given the chance to coach at the College level. As a head coach, he has only been able to muster 5 wins in two seasons with Iowa State. The only reason I can think of is that he was the defensive coordinator for Auburn the year they were undefeated, but like I said, they were not able to play for the National Championship. He went to Texas for the 2005-2006 season as a defensive coordinator and they were undefeated and won the National Championship that year. After that though, just 5-19 as a head coach which would put him towards the bottom of my list of available head coaches. Where is Turner Gill when you need him.
Muschamp Screws Texas???
December 12, 2008
Rumors that Will Muschamp would be going to another school were silented on November 18, 2008 when DeLoss Dodds came out and stated that Will Muschamp will succeed Mack Brown when he decides to move on. Theory was that Muschamp would move to Head Coach, Mack Brown would move to Athletic Director (Dodds would retire), Major Applewhite would move to offensive coordinator (Greg Davis would retire). This all changed though for me when I went to the bathroom this morning and turned my radio on. I have three emails in my inbox waiting for me (two of which are from guys who write for Alabama papers) that say Will Muschamp is the next head coach of the Auburn Tigers. This cannot be happening. I hope that this isnt true and its just the blogosphere gossip. This would probably be the worst possible scenerio that the Texas Longhorns could see right now because you know he is going to want to bring Major Applewhite with him as offensive coordinator or whatever.
