We may be a little late with the Top 25 for Division 2 football this week but it has been a very busy week. Not a whole lot of movement in the rankings. Hopefully this next weekend will be a good one for football. This season is already cooking up to be crazy one and the Lonestar Classic did no disappoint.

West Texas A&M 2010 Regular Season Schedule
August 21, 2010 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
Football season is here which means Texas Football is back. There is nothing that I love more than a good Texas Football game whether it be UT playing or Dripping Springs High School, I love a good game. The team I am featuring today is West Texas A&M. Starting out ranked #11 in the nation at preseason, they finished last season 7-5 which was far below their predicted outcome. I would not be surprised if they went undefeated this season but at the same time, you never know with the problems they have had in their past with coaches and players. We all remember the Ryan Leaf scandal. I feel like he has given the school at bad name, but it does not seem to be hurting them in the polls. I guess its good the normal fan isn’t voting because I thought it was joke when he first got there then when it all went down, I definately had one of those “I told you so” moments. With four starting wide receivers returning this season, you can bet the offensive production is still going to be there and hopefully even better this season. If you are in the Amarillo area you should stop by in a couple of hours for their first public practice which is open to everyone and best of all FREE. They met with the public last night answering questions and getting to know the town.

2010 D-2 Football Preseason Top 25
August 16, 2010 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
With the start of football season just around the corner, I thought I would start out the Division 2 season with a preseason Top 25 Poll. The American Football Coaches Association has put together the list (this is not in any way influenced by SidelineBlog at all). We have nothing to do with these rankings so please send all of your complaints to one of the people listed here. That being said, this season looks to be a great one for those Texas teams. With 3 of them being in the Top 25 in the nation and not one of them being ranked above 8th, I am excited to see how they react to being underdogs this season for the first time in a while. With the expectations not as high for West Texas A&M this season, I bet they can put together a solid regular season and get to the playoffs. Everyone knows that once playoffs begin, anything and everything will happen. It seems like Northwest Missouri State is always in that Top 5 and I hope they get knocked off their pedestal at some point this season.

Week 2 Division 2 Football Scores
September 10, 2009 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment

West Texas A&M drops out of the top 25 for the first time in two seasons with a loss to Central Oklahoma. Things are not looking good for the Buffaloes as they have dropped the first two games of the season. Texas A&M Kingsville, however, has had a huge turn around season winning their first two games of the season including opening up against Delta State. What surprises me the most I think is how Northwest Missouri is still ranked ahead of Kingsville even though they have lost a game. Their strength of schedule must be rediculous. Abilene Christian is off to their usually slaughter of every team they place winning their first game against the #2 team in the nation at the time Northwest Missouri and then crushing this past weeks opponent (Fort Lewis) 58-10. They seem to dismantle everything they come into contact with which isnt any surprise since University of Texas quarterback Colt Mccoy was about 4 inches from being at the school. Anyways here are the scores in no particular order…the winner will be in bold:
Central Oklahoma 24
West Texas A&M (13) 17
Carson-Newman (25) 14
North Alabama (4) 31
Bemidji State 34

West Texas A&M 2009 Regular Season Schedule
December 21, 2008 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
For West Texas A&M, the 2009 schedule is just another schedule of teams to play during the year. One would almost expect them to get a playoff berth next season considering how well they did this season. They got shafted in the sense that they only get 5 home games and play 6 on the road. They start off the season with two games at home and then travel to Washington and Oklahoma in week 3 and 4. I would look for West Texas A&M to end up 9-2 if they have a great season and 7-4 which will hopefully still give them a playoff berth. Whats sad is they could go into their conference schedule 1-3 or 2-2. They have some monsters to start out with and then should be able to manhandle everyone but Abilene Christian which is one of their away games. Its going to be an interesting season to say the least and with the recent firing of Quarterbacks Coach Ryan Leif, its going to be interesting to see how they do next year with a new Quarterbacks Coach.

West Texas A&M falls to #11 in the polls
October 22, 2008 by #1 Sportsfan · 1 Comment
What started as a blowout win for Abilene Christian, ended up being a showdown thriller. What sealed the deal was the two touchdown runs with 5:54 left in the game by Bernard Scott. One was for 47 yards which got the crowd moaning while the 65 yard breakout run pretty much silenced every single person in disbelief. A lot of fans left at halftime (very un-West Texas like of them) but actually ended up missing an amazing comeback try.
So what killed West Texas A&M? Two words, Billy Malone. Bill Malone threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more. The Senior had 407 all-purpose yards throughout the whole game. What gets me is Scott was averaging over 10 yards a carry the other night. He had over 26 carries which means he had over 260 yards on the ground. That to me, is just unbelievable. I dont understand how the #5 team in the nation can allow those kind of stats when they are just obliterating other teams year round.
Another Question I have is whether or not Abilene Christian deservers the #1 spot in the polls. We recently saw Penn State jump several spots after beating Wisconsin, Purdue, and Michigan State, so is that a far cry from what we have seen here? Who has Grand Valley played that makes them the team that deserves the #1 spot in the polls. Anyways, I worry that this blows any chance for West Texas A&M to make the playoffs. With a loss that bad, it makes me wonder if the players are starting to question their abilities to hang with the big boys because to me…Saturday night there was a clear message from Abilene Christian. Basically this, “You come to play or dont come at all.” This game had Alabama – Georgia written all over it. Well here are the up to date rankings for Division 2 Football:
1. Grand Valley State, Mich. (23) 7-0
2. Abilene Christian, Texas (3) 7-0
3. Northwest Missouri State 7-1
4. Bloomsburg, Pa. 8-0
5. Delta State, Miss. 6-1

I just dont see how you can argue some of those teams should not be up in the top 5. I feel bad for Central Missouri and Midwestern State schools, as they have probably both left the Top 25 but that also opens up a couple of spots for some of the other D-2 schools to step it up…
