Sports done the right way » Basketball http://sidelineblog.com Fri, 17 Feb 2012 16:33:42 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 Texas Longhorn Men’s Basketball Schedule 2011-2012 http://sidelineblog.com/texas-longhorn-mens-basketball-schedule-2011-2012/ http://sidelineblog.com/texas-longhorn-mens-basketball-schedule-2011-2012/#comments Tue, 06 Sep 2011 00:25:49 +0000 #1 Sportsfan http://sidelineblog.com/?p=970 The Longhorns ended their season last year in the third round of the Men’s Basketball Championship against Arizona by one point.  One point separated them from possibly going all the way to the National Championship.  One point and a lot of bad calls.  All of that is in the past though.  We have the future to look forward to now.  They ended the season with less than 10 losses which hadn’t happened since their last run with Kevin Durant.  This team will be nothing like that team having almost no height at all on the team this season.  With Kevin Thomas not qualifying academically, we are going to have our eyes set on the run and gun. 

*****I have updated the schedule as of 1/9/2012 with the updated times and TV channels the games appear on.  I hope this pleases everyone who has been emailing Sidelineblog.   It looks like the Longhorns have had a rough start to the season but can make up for it during the conference stretch.  Hook em’*****

]]> http://sidelineblog.com/texas-longhorn-mens-basketball-schedule-2011-2012/feed/ 0 2010-11 Longhorn Men’s Basketball Regular Season Schedule http://sidelineblog.com/2010-11-longhorn-mens-basketball-regular-season-schedule/ http://sidelineblog.com/2010-11-longhorn-mens-basketball-regular-season-schedule/#comments Fri, 06 Aug 2010 14:36:08 +0000 #1 Sportsfan http://sidelineblog.com/?p=805 For all of you Longhorn fan’s out there, I have some exciting news for you.  Out of the 31 regular season games, you will be able to see 21 of them on TV.  Even though I doubt they will open up in the Top Ten, I see this season as a great opportunity for Texas to show the Big 12 that its not just all about Football.  If they do well in New York City at the beginning of the season, they could face Illinois in the 2K Sports Classic basketball tournament.  The games you should obviously be excited about are the games against North Carolina, Michigan State, USC, Texas A&M, Baylor, Kansas, and Oklahoma.  Those are all potentially great games.  I am not promising a triple overtime game, but you know they are going to put up a fight to play all those guys.  Anyways, here is what the schedule looks like so far:

The average age of their starters is 29 years old.  Thats pretty hardcore if you ask me…especially since George Hill is only 23 years old.  Average age without him is pretty much 30 years old.   The upside is that they really started out horrible this season and to be honest I really didn’t think they would be making the playoffs in the first place.  The fact that they made it in is an accomplishment in itself.  Well they get the Dallas Mavericks first found which really does not sound like fun to me.  Its going to be great for fans, but not so great for the San Antonio Spurs.  The Mavericks lead the series this season 3-1 and the last time San Antonio beat Dallas was back in mid-November.  The last game they played was actually last night and the Mavericks won by 7 points 96-89 as we got a little preview of whats to come int he playoffs no doubt.  Should be an interesting series that gets heated at times.  When push comes to shove though, San Antonio is just too old to make any kind of run in the playoffs.

]]> http://sidelineblog.com/why-san-antonio-will-make-an-early-exit-in-the-nba-playoffs/feed/ 0 Blake Griffin Will Receive Season-Ending Knee Surgery http://sidelineblog.com/blake-griffin-will-receive-season-ending-knee-surgery/ http://sidelineblog.com/blake-griffin-will-receive-season-ending-knee-surgery/#comments Fri, 15 Jan 2010 19:46:06 +0000 #1 Sportsfan http://sidelineblog.com/?p=491 Blake Griffin, the overall number one pick in the 2009 NBA draft will have season-ending surgery on his broken left kneecap.  A lot of the media were excited when the preseason started but it seems that Blake Griffin just has not lived up to the built-up hype.  Much like most of the movies I get excited about, he played well when it didnt count and then choked once it did injuring himself in the preseason finale.  He has not played since.   What does this mean for Griffin?  Well, this means that his rookie season isnt officially until next season (which is great because this class is amazing).  With Griffin out this puts the Los Angeles Clippers at a huge disadvantage.  They were just 3 games out of the playoff picture in 11th position but they have lost two games in a row now.  Things looked up when Griffin came back from his previous problem (knee injury in the final game of the preseason) but it looks like the Clipper curse has struck again.  I dont know why they just cant pick in the draft very well, but I cannot remember a time they have picked someone who turned out half decent in the first round.  Blake Griffin could probably still be a superstar in the end, but at this point, I dont give him much of a chance.  By the time he gets back into the swing of things, he will be miles behind all those who came out of the draft with him.  Stephen Curry is looking better and better everyday averaging 12.4 points per game, nearly 5 assists per game, and is shooting 43% from three point land.  Its just a matter of time before my boy Curry takes off.  The video is of Blake Griffin’s first injury back in October.

Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs got tired of a bat interrupting their basketball game last week. In the video you will see him swat the bat (killing or stunning it, im not quite sure), pick it up off the court and walk it off the court to hand it to an official who then disposed of it somehow (I am strictly speculating of course because all I could see was the dude walk off the court and disappeared).  The best part about the entire game I think was that it was a Halloween game when this happened haha!  The San Antonio Spurs sure know how to put on a good show.

  1. North Carolina – (#6 John Henson)
  2. Texas – (#1 Avery Bradley, #8 Jordan Hamilton)
  3. Kentucky (#4 DeMarcus Cousins, #5 John Wall)

Even though they are 9-4, they have played some pretty hardcore teams in which they lost by 2 points to Butler, and 10 points to Kansas State and West Virginia.  They are playing some pretty big named schools for a school that I had never heard of.  I think its possible that they could take the Horizon League this season unless Butler just gets it from them.  Come to think of it, Butlers has played well in the tournament in years past, which makes me think that the Horizon League is a little underrated.

]]> http://sidelineblog.com/ncaa-mens-top-50-week-6/feed/ 0 Do we need the rest of the Regular Season??? http://sidelineblog.com/do-we-need-the-rest-of-the-regular-season/ http://sidelineblog.com/do-we-need-the-rest-of-the-regular-season/#comments Fri, 19 Dec 2008 17:23:49 +0000 #1 Sportsfan http://sidelineblog.com/?p=322 Twenty five games into the season and so far its a 3 team race.  The Lakers, Cavaliers, and the Celtics all have twenty or more wins at this point.  The Lakers have already sealed the deal with the Western Conference and only the Celtics have a larger lead in their division.  At this point, there are only 5 teams in the Eastern Conference that are above .500 in win percentage which means that the Celtics could probably clinch a playoff spot before the all star break.  With the Lakers being 8 games ahead of 8th place Utah Jazz, this could mean a playoff clinch in the next couple of months.  I will make my predictions now that it will be a Kobe – Lebron showdown in the NBA Finals.  It could possibly be a rematch between the Lakers and the Celtics but I am going to go with the upset in the playoffs.  I think the Celtics will go into the playoffs with home court advantage but I think Lebron James is about as clutch as a player can be in the NBA.  Look for Kobe to go off towards the end of the season.  I am looking forward to the Christmas matchup of Lakers vs. Celtics.

Friday looks good because I like the much improved Richmond squad and the best part is that I am going to get to watch it on TV. It will be on ESPNU at 6PM Central Time.
