I really do not think there is a whole lot of doubt in people’s mind that Tiger is really struggling right now with his golf game. He has actually never been worse than he is right now but the sad thing is that he still has two top 10 finishes this season along with 4 top 25 finishes also. He may not be the old Tiger Woods but then again he lost his marriage, his golf coach, caddy, and knee. For a man who is so obsessed with perfection and everything having to do with perfection, he sure has screwed the pooch on this one. If I were to ask you however, “If there is a player that could come back from some of the hardest struggles that a player has to go through, who would be able to get through it just fine?” My honest guess is about 30 percent of the players on the PGA would say Tiger. Even his competition believes that he can do it. The media is starting to turn a little though when you really think about it because they have been asking this same question since he missed the cut at his last tournament (happened to be the PGA Championship also) that he played in. Most golfers do not reach their prime until their 30′s and 40′s which is an interesting thought considering in almost all other sports your abilities usually start to decline around 40.

Tiger Woods should theoretically be able to come back from all of his current problems. He lost his wife which means he should be able to go out and get er done whenever he wants now. The problem is that I bet the tabloids are following him everywhere. My guess is he either needs a major psychological treatment as to his major addictions or he needs to get some tender lovin for his game to come back. Otherwise I am with the rest of the media when I say we might have seen the last the last of Tiger Woods, at least as the most dominate player in world history. We also all know that all Tiger needs is one win to spark that fire of his. One win could mean 4 in a calendar year (he has done it before).

Because there we no names in the playoffs the coverage actually dropped 14 percent from last years ratings. Last years actually ended in a playoff also at Whistling Straights with Martin Kaymer beating Bubba Watson. If you aren’t sure about TV ratings then let me give you a comparison. The preseason game tonight with the Jets and Texans will probably boast about the same rating as the Super Bowl of Golf.

So what does this mean for Golf and the PGA? My guess is that someone is going to have to step forward as a crowd favorite or I think Golf is going to slip back behind Soccer, Nascar, etc. Golf has always been one of those sports that needs to have a few great players at the top in order for it to thrive. With Tiger Woods, we had a guy who dominated the sport for years but every once in a while slipped up to give us some parody. With Tiger Woods, there is no drama. While Tiger has never been a comeback kind of guy, he has always managed to finish at least in the Top 10 at most tournaments. Now it feels like he isn’t even just an average golfer, he is just a hobby golfer. We can only hope that either Tiger Woods (who has lost his wife, most of his sponsors, his swing coach, his caddy and pretty much everything else) some how miraculously comes out of this slump or one of the up and comers steps up to win a few tournaments in a row to generate some talk about a Tiger replacement.

With the entire purse at over 7.5 million dollars, Rory McIlroy is playing for more than just his fame. Still early in his career, Rory could be already making a name for himself by leading the US open on the first day. I would almost say that he has the luck of the Irish on his side for this one shooting a -6 65 today, three shots ahead of anyone else. The fairly common Schwartzel seems to be creeping up in second (won The Masters earlier this season) and just refuses to go away.

The biggest news lately has been the fact that Tiger Woods has decided to pull himself out of the past few tournaments because of his knee/leg issues. I would suspect Tiger is really the only person who knows what is really going on. I think he just needs to get his family issues in order. His wife needs to just tell him she loves him and forgives him or something because its honestly ruining Golf.

We all remember Tiger Woods from the 2008 U.S. Open when he beat the whole group of 60 other players all on one leg. His left knee was killiing his game serious, but he stuck through it and finished strong in the final round (not to mention the fact that he played in an 18 hole playoff against Rocco Mediate). Well he had the surgery April 15th, 2008 on his knee. He got a double stress fracture on his left tibia during his rehab of the knee in which I can’t even understand the pain involved with that. Well he came back. He walked back onto the golf course less than 11 months after having the surgery. February 15th, 2009 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana, Arizona, Tiger Woods walked onto the course to restart his career. He finished when he lost the second round to Tim Clark who was only ranked 8th in the Bobby Jones bracket at the time. Clearly it wasnt Tigers day that day. Could it have been the knee? Well, what happens next leads me to believe that it was not his knee. He has now won 5 out of his first 12 tournaments which has got to be some kind of record for return-from-surgery players. He has won the last two tournaments coming into the PGA Championship which means that this championship is actually now his to lose. Its sad, but thats when he really turns the burners on. I am excited to watch him this weekend as he dismantles the other players at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. This is how Tiger has finished since he has come back:
