2012 Big 12 Football Schedule
February 16, 2012 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
The Big 12 has finally announced their schedule for the 2012 football season. I don’t know about the rest of the fans out there, but this has been a pretty exciting ride so far. With Texas A&M, Missouri, Colorado, and Nebraska all leaving the Big 12 it kind of looked like things were going to be a bit bleak for a while there. However, the Big 12 has done nothing but at strong programs to replace those who “jumped ship” at the first sign of impropriety. While they have only replaced two of the schools, they have replaced them with power schools from smaller conferences. They just officially added West Virginia a couple of days ago who has won the Big East conference twice in the past decade along with being in the top 4 every year in the past decade. The Big East, while a smaller conference than the Big 12, has a lot of history with both football and basketball. They are the premiere conference in men’s and women’s college basketball. Bringing in TCU was probably one of the smartest things that the Big 12 could have done. They are tapped into the Dallas/Fort Worth media network now along with sending a weaker Texas A&M team to the SEC. They have replaced the Thanksgiving game that the University of Texas has been playing Texas A&M for over a century with TCU vs. Texas Longhorns. Something I found interesting when looking at the schedules is that Iowa State only has four games outside the state of Iowa. They have eight home games total with four being out of state and one game down the road at University of Iowa.
Another interesting thing to look at is that Oklahoma State plays literally 6 different states (well official state schools) including: Texas (UT), Louisiana (ULL), Kansas (KU), West Virginia (WVU), Oklahoma (OU), and Arizona (UA).

West Virginia to the Big 12. Smart or Dumb?
October 25, 2011 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
Big 12 sources are coming out and saying that West Virginia could be accepted as soon as later today. As far as I know the Big 12 is doing this so they can replace Missouri if they leave for the SEC. This apparently will happen even if Missouri decides to stay in the Big 12. I imagine that West Virginia will be put into the North Division assuming the Big 12 makes it back to 12 teams. This works heavily in the Big 12′s favor considering that West Virginia football is probably at an all time high and their basketball team has made the NCAA tournament six out of the last seven years. If Missouri leaves then that will leave the Big 12 with just 9 teams next season. West Virginia will be leaving the Big East in 2013. With TCU joining and Texas A&M/Missouri probably leaving this would leave the conference looking like this:
- Kansas State
- Oklahoma State
- Oklahoma
- Texas Tech
- Baylor
- TCU
- Texas
- Iowa State
- Kansas
So is this good for the Big 12? I would have to say yes as far as sports goes. I think that geographically it makes about as much sense as TCU going to the Big East. I am really unsure how they expect their fans to travel well to most of their football games. If it holds the Big 12 together I am all for it though.
Oklahoma to the Pac-12?
September 13, 2011 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
According the ESPN there is a lot of leadership at Oklahoma that is still interested in moving to the Pac-12 from their current conference the Big 12. They are also reporting that Texas officials met with Oklahoma big wigs and they left Norman feeling very doubtful that Oklahoma would be staying. What does this mean for the Big 12? Well there are a whole lot of situations at this point the worst one of which being that both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State move over to the Pac-12. That would leave the Big 12 in a very bad position. Texas has already made it clear that it would not consider a 7 team Big 12 viable. We all know what has happened since last year when Colorado and Nebraska decided to go elsewhere. Now Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State are all looking elsewhere while everyone else in the conference minus Texas is talking possible lawsuit against everyone leaving the conference. If you are a Texas fan like us, you are just sitting and waiting for everything to unfold. Lets be honest with each other, short of a death penalty there is not a whole lot that could really hurt Texas athletic program. Texas A&M will not get in if there are
Is the Big 12 overrated this season?
October 19, 2009 by #1 Sportsfan · Leave a Comment
With Texas being the only team that is undefeated left in the Big 12, people are starting to talk about how the Big 12 is overrated this season. Oklahoma has dropped out of the Top 25 for the first time since 2005. They barely stayed in the AP poll only because they only lost my three points to Texas this past weekend. The real question here is whether or not the Big 12 is overrated. I say its not for a lot of reasons. First reason is that Oklahoma has three losses. If you disect those losses Bradford got hurt in the BYU game, did not play at all in the Miami game, and got hurt 8 plays into the Texas game. So you tell me that Oklahoma is horrible having shut out two other teams without Bradford. They might not be able to step up against the likes of Miami and Texas, but they are still no pushover, they will be in a highly anticipated bowl game (more than likely either the Cotton Bowl, Alamo Bowl or Holiday Bowl). Yes sir, when it comes down to it, I dont think I would like to face any of the top 6 teams in the Big 12. I don’t think any team could call it an automatic win.
Secondly, even though the Big 12 only has 3 teams in the top 25, they have three teams just outside the top 25 and next week, if all those teams win, they will more than likely be right back up in the top 25. There are two teams with one loss and 3 teams with two losses. In fact, there is only one team in the Big 12 that has a losing record at this point and thats Colorado. They are coming off a huge win against a top 25 opponent and long time rival Kansas handing them their first loss. My point is that even Texas A&M (which in the past few years has kind of been a joke in the Big 12) is putting up huge numbers against teams. They started out great with three huge wins against some decent teams, but has hit a rough patch going 0-3 in the past three games and being outscored 145-64 in those games. Thats a crazy stat considering they outscored their opponents 135-54 for the first three games of the season. Wake up boys, thats all I have to say. You need to step it up and make the Big 12 proud. I look forward to the Texas-Texas A&M game at the end o the season because both teams have the potential to put up some crazy numbers. All in all I would have to say that the SEC wont look as pretty as they do at the end of the season either because they are all going to have to beat up on each other. We might have lost one of our giants in Oklahoma, but to be honest with you, I am pretty sure most of the Big 12 teams could hold their own against SEC opponents. I look forward to the Cotton Bowl this season as I plan to attend and watch the Big 12 battle the SEC in a high profile bowl game. The Big 12 is not going away people. They are here to stay.
Texas Tech Red Raiders offically suck!

I am tired of watching the Big 12 lose. I am tired of watching the SEC win. Ole Miss is a great team, they have a great quarterback in Jevan Snead (last years Texas Longhorn backup) but I still do not think they compare to half the Big 12 teams. What I watched today was so pathetic I stopped enjoying football for about 3 hours today. I feel like its 3 hours of my life that I will never get back. Graham Harrell played like complete dog doodoo. I cannot believe I seriously went 0-3 today for bowl games. Today was a low day for me. Alabama is going to lose to Utah 31-17 ??? What is this world coming to? I dont know whether to stop watching college football all together or start pushing for a playoff. Obviously Texas Tech is not effective enough to even participate in the Cotton Bowl. I have stood up to the SEC A-holes long enough and listened to them whine about how the BIg 12 is so overrated and they have no defense.
On top of everything else that has happened today, now I have to ask the question, “Is Utah the best team in the nation?” Why am I asking this question? Because Utah not only beat Alabama tonight, they walloped them. Which just goes to show you that the SEC is not as strong as one would have you believe. OOOO, low blow right? Well the Big 12 isnt looking so hot either. To be honest with you I think that Texas Tech and Alabama were both heavily disappointed in where they ended up. I think that the total lack of preperation proves that point. Neither team won and Alabama started the game down 21-3. Texas Tech went up 14-0 and still lost. Graham Harrell was most definately to blame for most of the Texas Tech woes today with 2 interceptions. He had just thrown 7 all season coming into the game. The moral of this story is don’t put all your trust into a team soley based on a passing offense.
Colorado Upsets West Virginia

17-14 in Overtime. Was it really an upset? I mean I was expecting a good game to say the least, but what I got was probably the best game I have watched live all season. Yes, this was a home game for the Buffaloes but West Virginia being ranked #8 at the beginning of the season seemed to be looking past this game and to the future conference games. This is just proof that the Big 12 is the strongest conference in the nation right now. I am tired of the liberal, predominantly Eastern news media drooling over the SEC. Colorado has a rough schedule over the next month.
- 9-18-08 #21 West Virginia (W) 17-14 (OT)
- 9-27-08 #24 Florida State
- 10-04-08 #7 Texas
- 10-11-08 #19 Kansas
- 10-25-08 #5 Missouri
The only saving grace this team has at this point is that they dont have to play Texas Tech or Oklahoma Sooners. I am telling you guys this conference is HOT!! With the exception to Iowa State, Texas A&M, and Baylor, we have a very nice conference. Man, Colorado looked good tonight, I am excited for this weekend.
